Marajowi News RIP Malita’s Mum

RIP Malita’s Mum

Today we have a very sad news to share. Yesterday, 31st August Malita‘s biological mum passed away in her own house, We hope she will rest in peace….

We heard the news from Winnie, one of the teachers at Bandawe and immediately started coordinating some help for Malita. According to Malawian traditions, the family of the death person not only has to organize the funeral, but also has to put together enough food to share with those who pay their respect to the deceased. Of course, being Malawi based on the values of the community, funerals have a very high attendance level.

Luckily our Marajowi kids are still very close with each other, so as soon as they heard the news Joyce and Ramos volunteered to help. They bought: maize, beans, cooking oil, onion, tomatoes, 4 chickens, cabbages, for a total of 359,000MK. Marajowi sponsored it all. They organized everything in bags and transported it to Malita’s house. There they attended the funeral also together with Kattie (that in the meanwhile was travelling from Mzuzu) and from Malita’s teacher Winnie (who was coming from Bandawe). Witness joined too.

Despite never being an element of support for Malita, and despite having created more than one problem in the past, Malita’s mum’s house was a safe place where Malita could spend the holidays when school was closed. Now this chance has become really minuscule, since we are not sure the rest of the family would take her in.

Luckily we had organized already some alternative path for Malita. This year. she is going to focus on learning the art of tailoring. She seems to be good at that and we have found a teacher, who knows sign language, who is willing to be with her 3 days per week at school. We hope that in 1 year or 2, she will be able to open her tailor shop and stand on her own feet.
